We are New Mexico’s land-grant institution and a comprehensive research university dedicated to teaching, research public service and outreach at all levels. Over the past 10 years, our programs have expanded and changed to offer more degree plans in both the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as the delivery of many of our courses now fully online. The mission of the New Mexico State University system is to serve the diverse needs of the state through comprehensive programs of education, research, extension and outreach, and public service. As the state's land-grant and space-grant university, and as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, NMSU fosters learning, inquiry, diversity, and inclusion, social mobility, and service to the broader community. Graduate Students work with researchers towards master’s or doctorate degrees within our department. Our graduate students conduct research while attending to coursework, & often while teaching. Opportunities for teaching assistantships through the department are available to those that meet the criteria, and research assistantships are awarded through outside sources such as grants and fellowships.
Department of Biology
The CPU’s Advisory Council, comprised of regulatory utility commissioners and utility directors, gives valuable input into the content of CPU programs. The CPU is completely self-funded through conference and training program fees and by industry sponsorships. Over 450 people per year — from all 50 states as well as many foreign countries — attend the CPU training courses and current issues conferences held in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico. The purposes of the NMSU Department of Biology are coincident with those of the University, in that we see our responsibilities falling into the general areas of teaching, research, and professional service. The third area, professional service, is an important part of departmental activity. In addition to these primary responsibilities, we see leadership as an important element of our activities and, when applicable, extension and outreach as contributing positively to our mission. Whether interested in medicine, research, or anything in between, the biology department is a great place for undergraduates to grow.
Our campus partner, the University Accounts Receivable Office oversees student charges, payment plan options, Proxy, and Direct Deposit. Financial aid is disbursed to student accounts the Monday before classes start to pay off account charges. The schedule breaks down when disbursement and refunds are processed. Our geographical location along the United States Mexico Border and our diverse student population provides all students with outstanding clinical experiences-acute care and community based.

NM is our Campus Our main campus is located in Las Cruces, NM. We have 3 branch campuses and 12 research and science centers across the state. The Master's of Science in Nursing provides graduate level education and training in the field of nursing leadership and administration. The CPU strives to become the leader, keeping industry and commissions in tune with the ever-changing market realities and challenging regulatory policies.
In addition to coursework, we welcome & encourage our undergraduates to become involved in research. Undergraduate research provides opportunities for students to deepen their scientific understanding, gain skills in public presentation of data, and may lead to publications. Our degree programs range from a traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing to our advanced practice Doctorate of Nursing Practice. On October 1, 2022, the NMSU School of Nursing will be accepting applications for its new DNP degree concentration in Nurse Anesthesiology with a focus on rural health and health disparities.
